What is Opioid Abuse?

Abusing opioids means that you are either taking the medicine more often than the doctor told you to or that you are taking them even though you are not in severe physical pain.

Opioid abuse may have harmful effects on your health and even on your life.

If you are abusing opioids then you have a strong urge to take the drug. This urge is called a craving.

When you begin to have cravings, you no longer feel satisfied by natural rewards like eating chocolate, watching TV, or hanging out with friends.
